Robust Armored Gurnard

This video showed up on Youtube, obviously posted by a fascinated angler. And who wouldn’t be. It is a robust armored gurnard,

We had to look it up on FishBase. They are armored sea robins which seem to be a different genus than the sea robins we catch in the Atlantic, like the green-eye sea robin.

Very cool fish. We guess they are so armored that they can afford to be red. (actually we think red is the first light color to be filtered in water, so on the bottom red probably just looks grey.)
